I want to express my appreciation to all the parents who came out for our Parent-Teacher Conference Night on Thursday, October 29th. We had parents show up for 75% of the students of our class for the conferences. I enjoyed spending time with you sharing the progress your students are making this year.
We are working harder than ever to help our class meet our learning priority goals. The class goal is for each student to make at least 20% growth each term in each area of priority: reading, writing, and math. Each student that meets this goal has their name placed in the school’s prize drawing at the end of each term. Names are drawn and prizes are awarded to students who have met their LP goals. Students came have their name entered for meeting each LP. That’s three chances to win a prize!
Please feel free to contact me by phone at (801) 374-4950 before school (7:50-8:20 a.m.) or after school (2:45-3:15 p.m.), Monday through Friday, if you have any questions or concerns. You may also e-mail me at chadh@provo.edu. I am also available to speak or meet with you at other agreed upon times on a case-by-case basis. Communication is the key to success!
SUNSET VIEW STANDARDS
As Sunset View Dragons, we treat everyone with dignity and respect, accept responsibility for our own actions, share decision-making and leadership, problem solve together and do our best.
TEACHER’S EXPECTATIONS
Follow the teacher’s instructions the first time
Raise your hand to get the teacher’s attention.
Keep hands, feet, objects, and words to yourself.
HOMEWORK
Each week students are given a homework packet to work on for their homework time at home. Attached to the packets are words cards that can be cut out for students to practice the phonics and word constructions they are learning in class. Please make sure your child is using the word cards to practice their reading at home. Time spent practicing words cards counts toward Hall of Flame minutes.
SECURITY
To help make the people and property at our school more safe and secure, all visitors must enter the main doors and check in at the office. Check in procedures have been streamlined to make the process move quickly. Adults who are checking out students may be asked to show identification. Thank you for your cooperation!
INFORMATION UPDATES
We appreciate your helping us keep our records updated with your current address, phone numbers, and emergency contacts. These are particularly important when students are sick or injured. Please call the school at 374-4950 to report any changes to your address, phone numbers, or emergency contacts.
ABSENCES AND TARDIES
One of the greatest things parents can do to support their children in school is making sure they have good attendance and are not tardy. The most important reason is for learning. Despite best efforts to do “make up work,” students cannot learn as well when they miss school. When parents are contemplating a vacation, please consider planning them around school breaks to avoid learning loss. Additionally, district policy and state law require good attendance. Poor attendance can result in students not being promoted and/or parents receiving referrals to truancy court. Last, poor attendance affects school ratings. Schools can fail to meet state and federal standards simply for having below level attendance. Your help in making sure your student is here and on time is appreciated!
